This event gave us the opportunity to implement two of our school project’s main themes: “Learning: Reading, Writing and Communicating in the 21st Century” and “Being Open to the World and to Others.” The students not only developed their foreign language skills and learned to communicate effectively, but also experienced meaningful intercultural interaction, becoming more open-minded and globally aware individuals.
A Journey through Migration
In the first workshop, students explored the concept of migration from multiple perspectives. By examining the mobility of living and non-living beings through maps, they developed their own interpretations. Throughout this process, English was used not merely as a tool for communication, but also as a medium for thinking, debating, and creative expression.
This approach contributed to the development of key 21st-century competencies such as reading, writing, and communication.
Cultural Exploration Through Physical Theatre
The second workshop, held with students from the Saint Benoît Theatre Company, began with a storytelling performance by trainer Agnieszka Kaim and her team, accompanied by a traditional musical instrument. This artistic performance allowed students to establish both an emotional and cultural connection.
The subsequent improvisation exercises focused on discovering how cultural identity influences body language. Discussions revolved around the question: “Does belonging to a nation have an impact on the body—or not?” These exchanges helped students better understand different cultural perspectives and question how identity can be expressed through movement.
This experience vividly illustrated our project’s theme “Being Open to the World and to Others”: students discovered that diverse identities can coexist, that intercultural exchange nurtures creativity, and that empathy enriches artistic expression.
Finding Common Ground Through Rhythm
The final rhythm-based activity invited students to explore the commonalities between cultures through music, dance, and play. Although inspired by different stories, they found that rhythms and movements often share striking similarities—creating a powerful sense of unity among participants.
This experience added depth to their individual and collective learning journeys, reinforcing empathy, openness to others, and a sense of responsibility.
Expanding the Boundaries of Learning
The “Always on the Move” project offered our students not only an artistic but also a profoundly human experience. By bringing together different disciplines, such activities aim to keep alive the Saint Benoît French High School’s core values of learning, communication, and intercultural exchange.
